California Association of Nonprofits (CAN), a statewide membership organization of over 1,700 nonprofits, is dedicated to protecting, strengthening, and promoting nonprofit organizations in California.

Services include:

  • CAN Insurance Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CAN, which provides insurance products for CAN Members.
  • Educational Programs including an annual statewide conference, special-topic seminars, local conferences in underserved areas, the CAN Manager's Helpline, the CAN Alert newsletter, and the CAN Bookstore.
  • Cost Discounts and other special opportunities with vendors for products and services regularly used by nonprofits.
  • Quality Reporting Project, a national collaboration to improve the quality and reduce the costs of nonprofit financial reporting including Form 990 reporting.
  • California Ethical Values and Principles Project, which helps nonprofit and philanthropic organizations, elected decision-makers, and the general public understand and be guided by the principles and values that shape how nonprofits operate.
  • Energy Equity Project to help nonprofits reduce energy usage by 20 percent and lobby government and foundations to financially support efficiencies and renewables.
  • Public Policy Advocacy, directed by an independent advisory body, the CAN Policy Council. CAN seeks to influence and shape public policies that affect the broad nonprofit sector.
