The Advancement Project is an innovative civil rights and policy "action tank" that identifies, creates and promotes new strategies for achieving inclusion and equity.

The Advancement Project primarily focuses on reforming large public systems and other institutions that broadly impact society, and particularly affect L.A.'s poor communities. The Project works with grassroots and community mobilizing organizations to ensure low-income and underserved community residents have the information they need to engage public officials on vital issues.

The Atlas Family Foundations' grant supports the Water Cooler Conference; Learning Begins at Birth: The Larger Education Conversation, scheduled for March 24-25, 2009 in Sacramento, California. The Conference will bring together Early Childhood Education and K-12 advocates, researchers and service providers throughout California to discuss and forge policy to best address the needs of children from birth to 5.

Recent AFF grant: $10,000, January 2009
