Founded in 1926, Foothill Family Services mission is building, "Brighter Futures for Children and Families". Foothill provides mental health, social service, educational and outreach programs to poor and low-income children, teens, adults and families throughout the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, Glendale and Burbank. Most recently Foothill's Early Childhood Development Programs have expanded to include Early Head Start in El Monte, South El Monte and La Puente and a School Readiness Initiative in Azusa.
At Foothill Family Services, 80% of the children who receive mental health and case management services come from poverty level or low income families. Foothill Family Services' 88% bicultural and 81% bilingual staff reflect the communities being served and provided those services in English, Spanish, American Sign, Armenian, Cantonese, Farsi, Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese. 70% of clients in all programs are Latino, 11% Caucasian, 7% African-American, 6.5% Asian/Pacific Islander, and the remaining 5.5% are of various ethnicities. Over the past 19 years Foothill Family Services has grown from a small organization with a budget of just under $1 million to close to $18 million in the current fiscal year.
The Early ESTEEM program, partially funded by The Atlas Family Foundation, provides mental health services to children 0-5 years old who are at risk for developmental delays, preschool expulsion, or future school failure. This program directly addresses the developmental and mental health needs of young children who do not have insurance, do not qualify for Medi-Cal and whose families cannot afford to pay for the full cost of treatment. Early ESTEEM services include: developmental and mental health assessments, evidence-based treatment strategies, parent consultation and education, and family therapy.
