The Westside Infant Family Network is a collaborative effort among a group of in SPA Area 5 who have been serving West L.A. for 17 to 39 years to improve outcomes for children 0-3 in high risk family environments, by helping to improve the mental health of the primary caretaker and concrete social and economic stability of the family. "WIN" seeks to:
- Increase capacity of parents with children 0-3 to be responsive parents,
- Increase agency staff capacity to identify and integrate clinical issues into their case management work,
- Increase use of available resources by agency staff to meet the basic material needs (food, shelter, income) of their clients, and
- Enhance coordination, communication and continuity of approach among participating agencies.
The six organizations originally participating in this collaborative effort included: St. Joseph Center. The Venice Family Clinic, the Westside Children's Center, Mar Vista Family Center, the Westside Family Health Center, and the Santa Monica Unified School District Infant Family Support Program. The WIN approach was developed to expand services greatly from those each agency could provide on its own. Currently, the first 3 of these agencies are the full partners.
Because WIN has the combined power of a group of agencies, the services available to families: medical, parenting, foster/adopt, food pantry, teen and homeless services, and more—are multiplied from what each offers individually. The UCLA Family Development Project is participating as a consultant to the project.
The Atlas Family Foundations' grant supports capacity building, WIN staff salaries and benefits. The Program provides infant and family mental health services, as well as cross-agency basic supports to families facing multiple challenges. WIN also networks the services and case management of its partner agencies to ensure more comprehensive services for families and better communication among agencies.
Recent AFF grant: $100,000, June 2010
